Rules

 Tournament

The tournament will be a team competition –each team being made up by three competitors and no less than 2. The competition will be split into male and female categories. There will be no mixed teams unless a modality cannot be held due to an insufficient number of participants.

The tournament will began with a preliminary heat  phase. Number of rounds will depend on the number of teams. In the event of few teams, the tournament will skip the heat phase and will proceed to quarter-final, semifinal and final.

The tournament matches will use “3 Bon-Shobu (three points), lasting 3 minutes each except for semifinals and finals, which will be 5 minutes long.

The event organization reserves the right to modify modality/rounds to grant a dynamic tournament; in this event, the club delegates will be properly informed before the competition.

Scoring and advancement

For scoring and preliminary heats we use in general, the rules for Team Championship explained in the International Kendo Federation. A copy of this rules can be found here (from 15th kendo championship 2012).

Preliminary Heats

Basically the participating teams shall be divided into preliminary heat groups consisting of 3, 4 or 5 teams depending on the total number of the participating teams. Round robin applies to all preliminary heat groups.

Both 1st place and 2nd place of each preliminary heat group shall advance to the final tournament.

The placement of the teams in each group is determined by drawing. However, each team of the same club will be placed in different group. In the case that the number of teams of a club is greater than the number of groups, two or more teams will be placed in the same group, but will be alternated with other’s club teams to avoid fights with teams of the same club at the beginning of the tournament.

For determining the winning/losing team for a match we follow the next rules:

  1. The team that has the higher number of the individual winners is the winning team.
  2. In case where the number of the individual winners breaks even, the team that has the higher number of the points scored is the winning team.
  3. If the number fo the individual winners and the number of the points scored break even, a draw shall be declared. A play-off between the representatives shall not apply.

The ranking in each group is determined by the following order of precedence:

  1. The team with the higher number of the matches won as a  team shall be placed in the higher rank.
  2. In case the number of the matches won as a team ties, the team with less number of the matches lost as a a team shall be in the higher place.
  3. If both the number of the matches won as a team and the number of the matches lost as a team are the same, the team that has the higher number of the individual winners shall be in the higher place.
  4. If the number of the matches won as a team, the number of the matches lost and the number of the individual winners are the same, the team with the higher number of the points scored shall be in the higher place.
  5. If still two or more teams of one group turn out to be all squared in 1 to 4, the determination of the ranking in that group shall be made by round robin among the representatives of those teams.

Final Tournament

The final tournaments are conducted by a ladder tournament. The determination of the winning team and the losing team in the final tournament shall be made by the following order of precedence.

  1.  The team that has the higher number of the individual winners is the wining team.
  2. In case where the number of the individual winners ties, the team with the higher number of the points scored is the winning team.
  3. If two teams turn out to be all square both in the number of the individual winners and the number of the points scored, the determination shall be made by a play-off between the representatives of both teams.
